Description

Bronchodilators are a cornerstone in the treatment of conditions like asthma and COPD. They work by relaxing the muscles around the airways, making it easier to breathe. There are two main types: Beta-2 Agonists: These drugs, like albuterol and salmeterol, stimulate receptors in the airways, leading to smooth muscle relaxation and bronchodilation. Anticholinergics: Medications like ipratropium bromide and tiotropium work by blocking the action of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter that can cause constriction of the airways. Corticosteroids are potent anti-inflammatory drugs used in a variety of respiratory conditions. They help reduce swelling and inflammation in the airways, making it easier to breathe.
